Skop Lab Culture and Mentorship

We are committed to rigorous, curiosity-driven science and to building a supportive, inclusive, and collaborative research environment. We believe scientific ability grows through effort, feedback, opportunity, and strong mentorship. Our lab is a place for people at different stages of training to develop as scientists, colleagues, and leaders.

What we value
Scientific rigor
We design careful experiments, use appropriate controls, maintain complete records, and interpret data honestly.

Collaboration
We help one another, share ideas generously, and treat science as a collective effort rather than a competition.

Inclusion and respect
We welcome people from all backgrounds and believe that diverse experiences and perspectives strengthen discovery.

Growth
We encourage curiosity, resilience, self-reflection, and continued development in both scientific and professional skills.

Mentorship
Our mentoring philosophy is grounded in a growth mindset: people develop expertise through practice, persistence, and support. Lab members are encouraged to ask questions, seek feedback early, and build independence over time.

In return, members can expect thoughtful mentorship, regular communication, constructive feedback, and support for career development. We aim to help each person grow into the next stage of their scientific journey, whether in academia, industry, biotechnology, teaching, or related paths.

How we work
  • We pursue ambitious questions with care, creativity, and integrity.
  • We communicate openly and professionally.
  • We support one another through challenges and celebrate progress together.
  • We value reproducibility, accountability, and intellectual honesty.
  • We make space for both scientific excellence and personal well-being.

Research culture
Our lab studies cell division, midbody biology, RNA regulation, and intercellular communication. We believe the best science happens in an environment where people feel respected, challenged, and supported.

We want the lab to be a place where new ideas are welcomed, constructive disagreement is possible, and everyone contributes to a strong community.
